SPOSF: City Hall next Monday, August 17, 1:00 PM, Room 263

August 12, 2009

 SPOSF ACTION ALERT!

Supervisor Eric Mar (District 1) has introduced legislation that would prohibit owners from moving into their own property if there is a child under the age of 18 living in the unit for at least 12 months. This is yet another restriction of our rights. It also hurts renters with children who are searching for a place to live, because the restriction makes owners less likely to rent to families. It encourages owners to use the Ellis Act, which clears the entire building, rather than only the unit the owner wants to occupy. There is no reason for this new protected class, as owner move-in evictions have dropped from 283 in 2004/05 to 159 last year.

We MUST protest this assault on our ownership rights. The legislation will be heard before the Land Use and Economic Development Committee next MONDAY, AUGUST 17, 1:00 PM, ROOM 263 CITY HALL. Please plan now to attend this important hearing. In addition, please email and call:
