By Noni Richen, SPOSF President

May 15, 2009

 TWO ACTION ALERTS!!

1. Chris Daly and his pals want your property! Proposals to allow many roommates - with no extra rent; to limit rent increases based on a tenant's income; to limit banked increases. These proposals will be heard by the Land Use and Economic Development Committee. The meeting is at 1:00 pm, Monday, May 18, 2009. WE MUST VOICE OUR OBJECTIONS TO THESE LUDICROUS PIECES OF LEGISLATION!!!

Here is a link to the agenda: http://www.sfgov.org/site/bdsupvrs_page.asp?id=104285 Agenda Items 090276, 090277, 090278, 090279

In addition to attending, please email and call all supervisors, particularly Supervisors Dufty and Maxwell. Here is the link to their contact information: http://www.sfgov.org/site/bdsupvrs_index.asp?id=4353

2. In our May newsletter, we asked you to voice your objections to a plan to add inspections to our one- and two-unit buildings. Thanks to the many people who wrote. After attending two preliminary meetings, we learned that there is no plan to add general inspections; all inspections of our small buildings will "complaint driven," that is, upon complaints from tenants or neighbors. There is no change in the type of inspections; the change is that each rental unit will now be assessed a fee of $52 per year. We have decided to withdraw our objections to this fee and have asked for a clarification on the method of determining which units are rentals.
