Make your voice heard about the Muni parcel tax and 2/3 supermajority measure for approval of special taxes
Make your voice heard about the Muni parcel tax and 2/3 supermajority measure for approval of special taxes. As San Francisco small property owners know all too well, passage of a parcel tax is usually a slam dunk in a city with 63% renters who get to vote on the tax and reap its benefits, while paying for none of its costs. Our president discusses this topic in more detail in his message on page 1. We appeal to all our members to e-mail the mayor and the president of the Board of Supervisors, Rafael Mandelman, at the addresses below, urging them to find another way to fund the Muni bailout, rather than adding new expenses to our legally restricted rental incomes.

Sign the petition to require a supermajority to pass special taxes
A special tax is levied to fund a particular government project or program and is distinct from "general-purpose taxes" like a broad state sales tax. Special taxes are often imposed by local governmental entities, such as cities or special districts, to pay for public projects that provide a direct benefit to a specific group of taxpayers.
At our next members' meeting on Tuesday, November 11, we'll be circulating a petition to place a special initiative on the November 2026 ballot to require a supermajority (2/3) of the voters to pass local special taxes. Currently, only a simple majority vote (50% +1) is required. Should you be able to attend out Tuesday meeting, we urge you to sign it.
