Last year we defeated SB 1439, the bill authored by Senator Mark Leno to alter the Ellis Act to allow San Francisco to prohibit the resale of properties for five years. Again this year, Senator Leno has introduced SB 364 to do the same thing but to exclude certain small properties, but not all of them.

The top of the message states that the sender is "In Opposition to SB 364."

All you have to do is write two or three short sentences saying something like, "I am opposed to this legislation because...

• Rental property owners with more than 4 units may no longer be able to sell a property, even if they are losing money every month.

• There is no other industry in the United States where a local government can force a small business owner to stay in business against his or her will, even when losing money.

• SB 364 would prevent families who own small rental buildings from creating a home that meets their needs. Couples with young children often find themselves in need of additional space.

• Currently San Francisco requires a relocation assistance to displaced tenants of - $5,555 for each tenant when the owner wishes to take the units off the market.

• There is fair compensation already.

• SB 364 will not provide additional housing.

• By limiting the ability of owners and buyers to sell or convert their properties, investments in housing will be discouraged. SB 364 will kill housing.
