Plan now to attend the Rent Board meeting this coming Tuesday, January 31, 6:00 p.m. 25 Van Ness Suite 70 (basement).

At their December meeting the Rent Board Commission approved amendments to Section 12.20 of the Rent Ordinance that inhibit a housing provider from making new building rules unless the tenants agree. This allows difficult tenants the ability to engage in behavior that disturbs other tenants while limiting property owners from creating resolutions.

The Rent Board Commission is scheduled to revisit this ruling to make sure that the way it is written allows for State and Federal Laws, when passed, to be enacted. Hopefully they will consider concerns of housing providers. Our understanding is that public testimony will not be permitted, as this was done at the prior meeting.

We urge SPOSFI members to attend this meeting; we can show by our attendance that we are concerned with the outcome.
