SPOSFI: Assist persons displaced from the North Bay fires under the "Good Samaritan" program
SPOSFI members, many of us want to assist people who have been displaced by the horrible fires in the North Bay. We have been advised by members of the Board of Supervisors, that we have the option of making vacant rental units available to displaced RENTERS, not homeowners, under the "Good Samaritan" program. Basically, this program gives us the option of renting to people displaced by tragic events for a FIXED TERM, at a reduced rent of no more than 10% above what they were paying at their former rented homes. Naturally, there are many limitations and qualifying clauses in the program. There is always the chance that the tenant may fight the eviction, despite the lease. Regaining a rental unit could mean hiring an attorney and going to court. Be sure to read the regulation (called a 990) before making your decision.
