SPOSFI: Member Meeting NOTICE: We are changing the location and time of our Tuesday, November 10 meeting
URGENT — READ CAREFULLY
Attention all SPOSFI Members:
We are changing the location and time of our Tuesday, November 10 meeting. Instead of meeting at St. Mary's Cathedral, we are meeting at the San Francisco Rent Board, located at 25 Van Ness Avenue (near Market Street) in the large 6th floor conference room. The Rent Board meeting starts at 6:00 p.m. Parking can be found close to the location and most of the metering ends at 6:00 p.m. Be sure to double check, as there are a few locations along Market with different metering hours.
We are asking our membership to come to the Rent Board Meeting and speak out against the Kim 2.0 Ordinance. The Rent Board is taking testimony so it can develop the rules for implementing this new and destructive ordinance. We want to concentrate on only one issue, RETROACTIVITY, at this meeting.
Below are some talking points. You don't need to mention all of them. Just pick one.
1. The eviction protection law needs to be applied to new tenancies beginning after November 9, 2015, rather than retroactively to all existing rent-controlled tenancies.
2. It is unfair if not illegal to effectively annul existing lease agreements. Retroactive laws are generally illegal. The City should not be able to pass a law saying that terms of an existing lease are not valid!
3. If a small property owner has a long-term renter paying a fraction of market rent, for example, $400 for a unit with a market value of $2,000, it is not right that the owner must accept additional tenants to use the utilities and incur wear and tear.
