PROPOSITION 98
CALL TO ACTION!
PROP 98 – Protects Homes, Apartments, Businesses, Farms, Churches, from being taken from one owner and transferred to another private owner by Eminent Domain. It allows Eminent Domain acquisition for public works purposes. It phases out rent control; as a unit is vacated, that unit is permanently removed from rent control. All eviction protections remain in place. All present tenants are protected until they vacate the rental. Vote Yes on Prop 98.
PROP 99 – Protects single-family homes – only -- from Eminent Domain, except for public works purposes. It does not address rent control. It contains a “poison pill” that says that if it receives more votes than Prop. 98, it becomes law, even if Prop. 98 wins. Prop. 99 is endorsed by the League of Cities, comprised, in part, of redevelopment agencies, the most frequent users of eminent domain. Vote no on Prop 99.
HOW CAN SPOSF MEMBERS HELP?
1. CONTRIBUTE! Send your contributions to Californians for Property Rights Protection (address). Proposition 98 will probably not win in San Francisco County. It is vital that we support the statewide campaign.
2. PASS OUT POST CARDS AND FLIERS! We can supply them. E-mail peter@smallprop.org or call 647-2419, and we will deliver them to you.
3. TALK TO YOUR NEIGHBORS about eminent domain and how it has affected areas of San Francisco, including the Western Addition, where thousands of homes, businesses, and churches were bulldozed.
4. CONTACT FRIENDS AND RELATIVES THROUGHOUT CALIFORNIA. They will carry Proposition 98.
